The story of Chandramukhi revolves around a married couple, Ganga and Senthil, who move into an ancient palace where strange supernatural events begin to unfold. Unbeknownst to them, the palace was once ruled by Vettaiyan Raja, a cruel king who fell madly in love with Chandramukhi, a court dancer. Chandramukhi, however, was in love with another man. Enraged by her refusal, Vettaiyan imprisons Chandramukhi and her lover, eventually killing her in a jealous rage. After Chandramukhi's death, her spirit is believed to haunt the palace, waiting for revenge on Vettaiyan. In the present, Ganga becomes possessed by Chandramukhi’s vengeful spirit, seeking to destroy Vettaiyan, who now exists through Dr. Saravanan, who resembles Vettaiyan Raja. The movie builds up to a climax where Saravanan must face Ganga’s possessed form and bring an end to Chandramukhi’s torment.
